A dramatic beach in Batan Island, Batanes, lined not with sand but with thousands of smooth volcanic boulders hurled ashore by centuries of typhoons and ocean storms. The black and gray boulders against the deep blue Pacific Ocean create an otherworldly, almost lunar landscape. It is one of the most photographed spots in Batanes, especially at sunrise when the light catches the wet stones.
