About this destination

A citadel built by Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1571, serving as the defense fortress of Intramuros. Most famously, it was the prison site of national hero Jose Rizal before his execution in 1896 — his final footsteps are marked in bronze on the fort grounds. The Rizal Shrine museum inside preserves his writings, personal effects, and the original copy of his farewell poem Mi Ultimo Adios.
